At first I was skeptical about looking into a doula- I wasn’t really sure what they were. But the best decision I made was letting someone advocate for me. It allowed my husband to really focus on me when I needed him. Unfortunately, my doctors and nurses were not wanting to honor my birth plan, and weren’t taking no for an answer. My doctor even gave me a horror story of an example to try to scare me into getting what he wanted in my birth. It put my mind at ease to have Erin there reassuring me that I have every right to refuse unnecessary medical intervention, and continue with my birth plan.

 My baby decided to make an appearance a little early, and I didn’t do as much research as I had planned. It was my first birth, and I had no clue what to expect coming into it. I ended up hiring Erin later in my pregnancy, after she was recommended to me. Erin is very knowledgeable, she showed us how to use different positions and pressure points to our advantage. Being up and mobile helped me feel more comfortable, and encouraged my contractions. She was able to teach my husband some of her techniques so he could to be hands on and help me through each contraction. In the end, I had an amazing experience and a quick birth with a healthy baby. I am so thankful God brought Erin into my story, everything truly happens for a reason.
